The East and North Finland EU office represents the interest of the regions of Central Ostrobothnia, Kainuu, Lapland, North Karelia, Northern Ostrobothnia, Pohjois-Savo and South Savo in Brussels. In close collaboration with the regional councils the Brussels office aims to improve the competitiveness and conditions of the businesses throughout the East and North of Finland.

Steering group

The steering group of East and North Finland EU office is formed by the directors of the regional councils of member regions, that each take the chair and the responsibility for arranging the meetings in annual turns. Kainuu region is represented by the Regional Mayor Pentti Malinen.

The director of East and North Finland EU office attends the steering group meetings, presenting issues that concern the EU. Members of the executive committee attend the meetings, if possible.

The executive committee

The executive committee of East and North Finland EU office, formed by representatives from each of the member regions and the director of East and North Finland EU office, is an essential tool in reporting the activities of the office and evaluating the results. The discussions cover essential actions and the priorities of the past quarter, as well as the future actions and priorities.

The executive committee provides direct feedback to the EU office in its reports. The executive committee assembles when necessary, but at least once per quarter, actively providing the EU office with information on the current matters of the member regions.  Kainuu is represented by Regional Development Director Jouni Ponnikas.
