Winter Wonders Event Published
This year's Winter Wonders Christmas market event was officially published in a media event in Brussels on Monday the 12th November 2018. The event was hosted by Philippe Close, Mayor of the City of Brussels, and Karine Lalieux, alderwoman for Culture, Tourism, Big Events and Public Cleaning.
At the event, speeches from regional actors in Brussels were heard, but also one from Regional Mayor Pentti Malinen from Kainuu. He represented not only his own region, but the whole Finland, being the celebrated country this year. The English speech of Pentti Malinen as a whole is found on the bottom of this page.
At the event, the fresh visual design of this year's WInter Wonders event, created by a popular contemporary artist from Brussels, Oli-B, was also seen in public.
What is Winter Wonders About?
The Winter Wonders event In Brussels takes place before and during the Christmas holidays, at the Grand-Place in Brussels and around the Bourse, the Place de la Monnaie, the Place Sainte-Catherine and the Marché aux Poissons. Winter Wonders Christmas Market is one of the biggest Christmas market events in Europe, annually attracting a breath taking amount of 2,5 million visitors!
A celebrated country is invited to participate each year. This year the celebrated guest is Finland. The city of Brussels, Visit Finland and the Regional Council of Kainuu in Northern Finland have agreed of the concept to be realised. The event will take place from 30 November 2018 till 6 January 2019.
The section of Kainuu and Finland is found in the vicinity of Brussels Stock Exchange (Bourse, see the map below).
At this time, the cultural programme planned in Kainuu and the market place sales by Kalevala Spirit (also from Kainuu) have already received markable publicity in the Brussels media. Some articles are listed below.
